On Senior Night . . . the final home game of the first season at the Sue D. Cooley Stadium . . . with Sue Cooley in attendance . . . the Lunas pulled off the UPSET of the season with an incredible 17-7 win over the previous unbeaten Division I Maui High. WIth many key players not suited up due to injury, and the loss of key senior Chris Kaniho in the second quarter due to injury, the remaining Lunas stepped up, especially on defense, to earn a hard-fought Victory! JD Rosario put on a show with a Pick 6, then a fumble recovery. Nau Filiai was disrupting the Saber backfield all night. Junior Moala was making a difference in the middle. Donavon Defang made a clutch 16 yard run up the middle for the go-ahead TD. Best of all, the Super Sophomores stepped up - whether it was Siale Hafoka's 2 interceptions, Elijah Ragudo's long kickoff return, Mystic Kauhaahaa's tenacious defense and his clutch run to midfield to extend the Lunas' possession in the fourth; to Bailey Honda's calm leadership at quarterback to lead the team down the field for Haaheo Au's clutch 26 or 30 yard field goal to put the game out of reach . . . it was a tremendous effort by EVERYONE. As Sensei Jon Shigaki reminds us every day, don't ever give up!
