The Lunas finally get the big monkey off their back, defeating their long-time HHSAA nemesis Iolani 35-27 to advance to the Division II championship at Aloha Stadium on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Lunas busted out to a 35-10 lead at the half, and hung on as Iolani's Tai John Mizutani made like Chayce Akaka and brought Iolani back within 8. But the Lunas held on a couple of goal line stands and a spectacular Kai Casco interception ended the Iolani threat, allowing the Lunas to go into victory formation to run out the clock. Lunas were led by Joshua Tihada with 167 yards on 29 carries and 3 TD's, and Elijah Ragudo with 139 yards on 18 carries with an electrifying 62 yard TD run to break things open in the second quarter.
