Shots from Class of 2021's graduation practice at Sue Cooley Stadium. I believe this was the first time since March 2020 that the entire class was together at the same time. Bittersweet it must've been. Project Grad goodies such as a bag and hoodie were handed out to the graduates since there would not be a traditional Project Grad due to ongoing COVID restrictions. They were treated to some post-practice surprise entertainment from Na Hoku Hanohano award winner Nuff Sedd (sponsored by the Class of 2001) and dinner from Teppanyaki2Go.

PHOTO NOTES: This was my first grad practice since my own in 1989. Usually these things are held during school hours under the hot Lahaina sun. But due to COVID, they held the practice at night so I was able to come and get a heads up on the program. Good thing as I was able to better plan and anticipate the gear I had to have. During presentation of diplomas, I noticed my initial shots with flashed were washed out and out of focus (I have no idea how to use flash lol), so I decided to go with the Nikon Z6 and the 24-70 2.8 sans flash and ramp up the ISO. I was also able to mark the stage so that the graduate could stand exactly where their head would block the stadium light in the background and hopefully, create a halo effect around their head lol. I was also able to determine when opportunities would arise where I could go up to the top of the stadium seats and get an overview shot of the field, especially during sunset. All in all, another reason why going to a practice or rehearsal is sooo helpful in shooting an event.
