The Lady Lunas settle for 3rd place in the MIL going into the tournament with a 4 set loss to 2nd place KSM 25-17, 24-26, 22-25, 15-25. The Lady Lunas started off strong, but couldn't find quite keep the momentum going to finish off the sets, seeing leads disappear late in both games 2 and 3. That's the difference between a 5-6 team and what should have been an 8-3 team - gotta find a way to finish off sets and matches. Late season losses to Baldwin (up 2-1, lose in 5) and Maui High (up 2-0, lose in 5) forced the Lunas to take the hard road to States. They have to beat Kamehameha on Monday in the MIL tournament to keep their HHSAA hopes alive. If Lunas win Monday then win Tuesday against King K, Lunas will be Tournament champs and play King K again on Wednesday for overall champion and a seed in the HHSAA. If Lunas win Monday and lose Tuesday, they play Kam again on Wednesday for the MIL's 2nd spot in the HHSAA. If Lunas lose Monday, season is over.
I think this Lady Lunas team has what it takes to get to States, but they have to find a way to finish off sets, minimize mental/unforced errors, and fight through and overcome all of the HORRIBLE CALLS/NON-CALLS that will inevitably come their way. They have three days to rest up, regroup and refocus but they can do it! They are playing at home so I hope the students and hometown fans come out to support. I mua LUNAS
