In all of my years of shooting Lahainaluna sports, I don't think I ever saw the girls volleyball team beat Kamehameha Schools Maui. But a sweep? On the road? The Lady Lunas pulled off an upset sweep of the defending MIL champions 26-24, 25-20, 25-17. The Lady Lunas were in control throughout the match, although the Warriors came back strong in Game 1 to make it a deuce game. In the 3rd, the Warriors shot out to a big lead, but the Lunas made a huge run to take the lead for good 12-11, thanks to some great serving by senior leader Nicole Turno. All in all, the Lunas service game was excellent - they had minimal service errors which prevented giving away free points and killing their own momentum. Their defense and blocking was much improved, leading to some long rallies that the Lunas were able to win and some key blocks that thwarted the Warriors' momentum. Keep up the good work, ladies!
