Action from Lahainaluna's 49-6 win over Baldwin to open the 2018 MIL season. The Lunas led 35-0 at the half. Baldwin's lone touchdown came off a strip six deep in Baldwin territory in the waning minutes of the 4th quarter. Derek Perez scored 3 touchdowns. Eki Storer had 2 TDs and Kamalei Watson and Josh Tihada had 1 TD apiece. Lunas defense was in midseason form, holding the Bears to 47 yards in total offense according to the Maui News. Special teams was huge. Pablo Rico was back in action, connecting on all of his PAT's (against Kapaa, the Lunas were 0-5 in 1/2 point conversions). His booming kickoffs and automatic touchbacks negated the big play capabilities of Baldwin's Bishop Wickes, who had 2 kickoff return TD's the week before against a top team from Alaska. Meanwhile, Kamalei Watson and Trey Rickard were both solid in returning punts and giving the offense great field position to start their drives. Except for the punt return late in the 4th that pinned the Lunas deep in their own territory that led to the Bears lone score on a strip/fumble and TD return. According to the Maui News, the Lunas used 18 ball carriers and 5 different quarterbacks to register 340 yards in total offense, of which 296 yards were on the ground.
