All good things must come to an end and on this night, the Lady Lunas MIL win streak was snapped at 164 games by King Kekaulike 44-52. It was an amazing feat over the course of the past 12 seasons but now its time to regroup, get better and play ball. The goal every season is to win the MIL championship and go to States. If there is any consolation, I'm personally glad it was this King Kekaulike team that ended the streak, with their connections to Lahainaluna in Coach Cy Peters, as well as their current players TC Pahukoa and Kreyajan Pahukoa who played with the Lunas their freshmen year and whom I got to know - very talented, hard-working, humble kids. Also congrats to Coach Kai Pahukoa as well as recent Lunas' alum c/o 2018 Kayjan Pahukoa, who is an assistant coach. Hats off and congrats to King K on the win. The Lady Lunas were led by Ashley Akamine’s 13 points. Kiera Kaniho scored 9 and Taylor Eldredge 8 points. The Lunas loss was compounded by the premature foul-out of Abby Akamine, who was apparently attributed an extra foul (that should have been assessed to another Luna) and fouled out early in the third quarter. The Lunas also lost their leading scorer Ashley Akamine early in the fourth quarter when she was going for a loose ball and was collided into by a King Kekaulike player. No foul was called on the play but Akamine suffered a significant leg injury and was unable to return.
