Lahaina welcomed back Lahainaluna standout Fieme'a Hafoka as her San Jose State Spartans took on BYU in the Maui Jim Maui Classic NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament at the Lahaina Civic Center. With their leading scorer Ayzhiana Basallo out with a foot injury, the Spartans faced an uphill battle against a tall BYU team with sharpshooters from three. At times, Fieme'a had to guard some of BYU's bigs (6'3", 6'5 and 6'7") in the low post but true to her competitive nature, she did not back down. Unfortunately, an apparent lower back issue caused her to be taken out early in the third quarter and she did not return. Hopefully she will be able to play against Northern Arizona. She finished with 7 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and I thought she had a block, too.
