Another classic Lunas-Bears football game! The Lunas took an early lead with their best offensive drive of the season to take a 7-0 lead in the first. Elijah Ragudo was finding the crease and heading upfield with confidence for chunks of yardage before Josh Tihada finished off the drive with a nice run behind the blocking of big brother Justice, cousin Ikaika Viela and Aki Miyamoto. The Bears stormed back with a drive and score of their own to tie it up 7-7. The teams played even, but the Lunas dug themselves a hole, giving Baldwin great field position on a couple of misplayed* punt returns and found themselves down 26-14 with 8 minutes left in the fourth. Then the kids put together an incredible comeback! After starting QB Enele Scanlan was knocked out of the game after a helmet-to-helmet hit as he headed out of bounds on a run, Eki Storer weaved and danced his way to the end zone from about 50+ yards out to make it 26-21 with 2:58 left. The ensuing onside kick was recovered by the Lunas. An incredible catch by freshman Josh Tihada set the stage for a I-Will-Not-Be-Denied bull rush Larry Csonka special by Donavon Defang, who plowed over a Bear LB for the go-ahead touchdown with 1:52 left. Up 27-26, the Lunas opted for the extra point rather than a 2-point conversion, which would have put them up 3. Instead, the extra point kick missed. Unfortunately, there was too much time left on the clock. THe Bears were able to march down to the 6 yard line, thanks to a defensive holding call, no offensive holding calls and some nifty running by Chayce Akaka. The Bears hit the FG for the win, 29-27. What a game.
